From Santa Barbara to San Francisco

The drive on the 1 from Santa Barbara to San Francisco was gorgeous. Along the way there was the Hearst Castle, we did not stop there because it was expensive, we may go in the future. We did take the virtual tour online which was nice. :)
Also, there was a elephant seal refuge. This was awesome, I could stay all day and watch them fight and play and scratch. They have the biggest dough eyes, soo cute! The sounds they made were very funny also, sounded like lots of burps and farts. They took up about 2 miles of beach front.

Next along the way stopped in Santa Cruz to visit the Boardwalk. I have never been there, but Jonathan was a seasoned veteran. He let me pick the rides that we went on, I picked the swings, ghost ride, the one that shoots you up and drops you, and a roller coaster. We also had a slushie and a corn dog. It was really fun!

The Giant Dipper was built in 1924 it took 47 days and $50,000.  It has speeds up to 50mph and is up to 70ft tall. It is now considered a national monument.
It was a short ride but a good one.

  1. I am so glad you stopped at Santa Cruz and went on some rides. Lots of great family memories from there! The California coastline is beautiful...almost as good as the Oregon one :)

  2. Just looked at the three new blog posts. Loved the familiarity of all the pictures. We miss the Boardwalk(especially the corn dogs). Glad you got to drive up Highway 1! That is a beautiful drive! And Hearst Castle is a must some day, incredible to see what money can buy!!
